A total of 6,443 visitors attended the event from a total of 2,948 companies and once again the TFWA Cannes Exhibition was a great success.
The duty free and travel retail industry is experiencing one of its toughest periods in recent memory with global sales down in 2015 for the first time since 2009. However sales in 2016 picked up and total sales grew by just under 1% year on year, with Asia Pacific recording 5% growth, and the America’s down 8.6%.
However if you take a long term view you can be very optimisitc.
Projected passenger numbers worldwide are forecast to more than double from 2015 (7.2 billion passnegers) to just over 19 billion in 2034, with a massive growing middle class driving numbers.
On the Diverse Flavours stand this year we exhibited a full range of South African Premium wines, including for the frist time Tamboerskloof wines from Stellenbosch, Scots Gold Scotch Whisky from Charles Edge London, a new innovative Scotch Whisky company. We were joined on the stand by Charles Edge and Melanie Broye-Engelkes from Charles Edge London. We also exhibited Japanese Sake from Sakuramasamune, one of Japan’s oldest Sake breweries dating back to 1625.
The show was a great success, and we had many meetings and discussions with both existing clients, and many new ones.
