Suntory and Daiei visit South Africa

As part of the on going development of the ‘29 Made For Meat’ brand in Japan we had a visit from Suntory, Daiei and Kokubu in the first week of February 2017.

Included in the group, all visiting South Africa for the first time were:

  • Osamu Kato – Senior General Manager, Suntory
  • Masayuki Jinzenji– Wine Advisor, Suntory
  • Yuka Tajima– Marketing Division, Suntory
  • Hidekazu Ogata, Daiei
  • Naoto Osaka, Kokubu

Daiei, one of Japan’s largest National Supermarket chains launched 29 Made For Meat  – a Cabernet Sauvignon in over 180 stores in 2016. They will launch 29 Made For Chicken – a Pinotage on 21 March 2017.

The visiting group’s objective was to experience South Africa and to gain a strong understanding of where the wine comes from, the terrior, the people, the food and the natural beauty and environment.

Both 29 Made For Meat and 29 Made for Chicken were produced by Winemaker Ben Synman from Overhex Wines International. They were made to perfectly accompany meat and chicken dishes prepared and served in Japan.

Daiei, on launch of 29 Made for Meat cross-merchandised the wine in the meat section of the supermarket and widely marketed the brand online and in the stores through flyers and leaflets.
